Founded in 1913 by Manuel de Almeida, Barros is a benchmark of the Port wine sector, distinguished by its history and profile Portuguese. To commemorate its 100th anniversary, it launches a very limited commemorative edition of 1913 bottles, resulting from a blend of very old wines, in a historical retrospective on the great nectars of this prestigious House.

Currently owned by Sogevinus, Barros maintains its commitment to its traditional character and, at the same time, a contemporary and elegant image associated with values such as authenticity, origin, Portugueseness and innovation. The brand is located in Quinta de S. Luiz, in the sub-region of Cima Corgo in the Douro, its terroir of choice, where over the decades has produced high quality Douro DOC wines and wines.

According to Sogevinus CEO, “Barros has preserved its authenticity and respected its centennial past, but always seeks to evolve and renew itself to adapt to the market and the consumer, innovating and conquering new audiences. Barros’s 100th Anniversary Special Edition celebrates the memories and traditions that write the pages of the brand’s life and marks another landmark chapter in its history, of which we are very proud to be a part.”

For this exclusive edition, winemaker Pedro Sá and his team carefully selected the best wines of every decade of the house’s existence. This perfect combination of very old wines generated a blend with an average age of 65 years. These wines have aged for decades in small 225-liter oak casks and have evolved in the Barros warehouses in Vila Nova de Gaia, where the influence of the Atlantic Ocean benefits its quality, freshness and elegance.

With a captivating and tempting profile, it displays orange hues tinted by greenish glints. The nose, enhanced and powerful, emanates in catadupa aromas of figs, honey and almond succeeded by the notes of crystallized orange and pleasant vinagrinho. The broad and oily mouth confirms the amazing aromatic lace. It presents an exciting joviality in Port wine that is born to celebrate the 100 years of Barros and that materializes the nobility of a house that continues to surprise with eternal wines.
